According to a legend, when Goddess Sati immolated herself in Yagna , Lord Shiva in his grief and anger carried her body and started to perform his fierce dance of tandav which scared other deities. Seeing this Lord Vishnu in order to save the world from annihilation, used his chakra to cut the body of Goddess Sati in 51 pieces, Shri Naina Devi Temple is the place where the eyes of sati fell. Nanital is also a delight for the eyes, as some of its vantage point offers a bird’s eye view of Himalayan Peaks. One of the most popular activities here is boating; many even come here for trekking in the forested mountain regions.
